So, you have spent sleepless nights flipping through this doctrine, that rule, this principle and that enactment. You have widened your comfort zones, shed your egos and have coveted prestigious internships on your platter. Sounds promising. There’s no stopping you.
Then dawns the final and the fifth year, when you find voices in the campus discussing ‘placements’. You feel the glamour attached to it all. You’ve received umpteen suggestions from your seniors, but still, your apprehensions do not take leave of you. You are determined. So are the recruiters. You want the best bet. So do they!
With heartbeats raising along with every raise in the number of students vying against each other, you need to hold ground. And, not only that, you need to emerge a victor. How do you do that? Here are some pointers which may be of help to you:
- Know what you want: It is very important for you to know what your long-term goals are in your life. What do you want to be? Where lies the best expression of your individuality? These are the questions which answer the kind of job you choose from the menu. Keep in mind, do not fall prey to what can be called a ‘mass hysteria’. Do what you want to do, be what you want to be, whatever may be the opinion/choice of everyone else around you.
- Let your juices flow: Be ready to go the unconventional way. What if your passion lies in entrepreneurship and not in litigation? What if your love rests in the corporate sector and not in the civil services? Be the master of your fate, be the captain of your soul! Do not flow along with the stream; be brave to let the river in you flow.
- Be Confident: Do not saddle yourself with apprehensions. Even when you face the interviewers, be frank about your answers and be open enough to acknowledge your lack of knowledge about any question asked. Be humble and show a willingness to learn.
- Research about the recruiting organization: It always leaves an impression on the interviewer and sets you apart from the crowd, if you showcase background knowledge of the work the recruiting organization is doing. It shows your preparedness and seriousness about the recruitment process. It also reflects upon the kind of person you are.
- Be hopeful and give it your best shot: Do not compare yourself with your peers as you have your own set of goals and priorities. Follow them with your concentrated efforts and you will definitely succeed in your true calling!
Thus, these are only some of the pointers that can be helpful to you in facing the storms ever more confidently. Recruitment season in full swing, we wish you all the very best! You may as well add any other suggestion to the above list through your comments.
Thanks for your post!!
